Ski Safari – Sat 17 March 2018

Description of Holiday

Last season we enjoyed our first ski safari. We are returning to the same hotel in 2018 but this time adding new resorts of Champoluc, Gressoney and Cervinia.  The skiing will be all on piste guided by qualified instructors to suit intermediate skiers . One group will choose the easiest routes whilst others will be more challenging to match the ability of the skiers

Champoluc is the largest resort in the Monterosa area, with great glacier views, uncrowded slopes and fabulous off-piste.

A huge ski area also known as Italy’s very own “Three Valleys”. Surrounded by wooded terrain and based at one end of the Monterosa ski area (with Gressoney in the central valley and Alagna on the far side).

Champoluc boasts spectacular views of the region’s dramatic glaciers and peaks. Renowned in particular for its uncrowded slopes and fabulous off-piste terrain.

With the best snow record in Italy, access to Europe’s highest lifts, and a friendly village ambience, Breuil-Cervinia is one of the world’s top ski resorts.

Cervinia is one of the world’s leading resorts. Located at the head of a long valley leading off the Aosta Valley, this high-altitude ski area links with both Valtournenche, and Zermatt in Switzerland, offering 350km of pistes overall.

We will stay half board in the Hotel Alpechiara but travel out each day to a different resort by minibus driven by our instructors/ guides. This means we can reach lots of smaller resorts we wouldn’t normally get to enjoy. We will be guided on 5 days with one free ski day, usually Wednesday. The guides plan the route each day to give us the best possible experience to enjoy all that the area has to offer (including the restaurants). As there will be at least 2 guides we can offer a choice of speed but as a minimum guests must be able to ski all day 9-4 including some red runs at a good pace stopping for a coffee & lunch. There will be no formal teaching drills in this week but those who wish can ask the guides for tips as they ski and should therefore finish the week having had the best of both worlds, improving their skiing without going to lessons!

Below is an example of how the week might be. Valle Blanche would be an option for better skiers and would incur an additional charge for the local guides.

Itinerary Suggestions:

• Day 1: La Thuile
• Day 2: Pila
• Day 3: Courmayeur
• Day 4: La Thuile going through to the linked French resort of La Rosiere
• Day 5: La Valle Blanche*

– The internationally renowned off-piste route with Mountain Guides, from Courmayeur using the brand new revolving SkyWay lift to Punta Helbronner over 3500m, descending to Chamonix 1000m (approximately 2500m of verticle descent off-piste over glaciers and through granite peaks)(subject to snow conditions a competent intermediate skier would complete this route – parallel on red runs). Return by bus from Chamonix to Courmayeur. *(subject to weather conditions)

Day off:

Free Local bus services will take skiers to either Courmayeur or La Thuile.

Numerous historic sites are available to visit.

Terme di Pre.St.Didier ( only 3km from the hotel.
