Do I really need a ski helmet?

There are many of us who have skied without incident for years without a helmet but then again we used to ride our bikes without them too and we wouldn’t dream of doing so now!
 
Just because you have been safe for years doesn’t mean you won’t have an accident next week!
 
Helmets are as warm as any hat but can be ventilated to keep cool too. Hire one to get the feel of it before you buy. Remember you can be hit by another skier even if you ski very sedately!  Sometimes I am glad of mine when I get hit on the head by the bar in a chair lift.

Currently most insurers do not insist on skiers & boarders wearing a helmet but the day might come when not wearing one might be considered as contributing to your level of injury.
