Every airline has it’s own small print but it’s well worth studying it before you book. Some will allow any weight of hand luggage as long as there are no liquids and your wheelie bag is within their stipulated size. If you book with one of these airlines you can make your luggage allowance in the hold go much further without incurring extra luggage charges.
On the other hand some airlines limit you to 5 or 10 kgs of hand luggage!
Ski boots will fit in the regulation hand luggage size as long as they are packed on top of each other and not side by side as in a conventional boot bag which is too wide. They normally weigh about 5kgs so allowing for the weight of the bag and the fact that you need a few personal items as well you need at least 10 kgs to be of any use.
